I've resurrected some personal works from one of my blogs long lost in time. I'm hoping to discuss these ideas as I'd really love to develop these further but throwing them into a full on character design pipeline realise them fully in 3D, possibly in their own unique environments. I'm really pulling my hair out now in coming up with something unique, however I feel that in developing these characters I can achieve that.
No more cutesy sunshine and butterfly mumbo jumbo, I think its time for something a little more 'adult'.

Zack - you're beginning to worry me now. It's like you don't know what you're 'for'. I thought it was pretty clear; what you need is something clean, solid and contextual that will allow your strengths as a character designer to shine, while also 'capping' the need for hugely involved narrative - hence a project based around the idea of personification and 'families' - hence the suggestion of the periodic table. I don't want you spinning your heels and getting bogged down in the minutiae of a massive eco-system - or in doodles from a blogging past. You need to give yourself a commissioning context - a clear brief that serves your interest.
eg. You have been commissioned by 'x' to design and model a range of characters for 'y' context...
so, again, by way of an example:

You need something 'real', Zack. I mean this supportively, but stop dithering!
Hey Phil,
Sorry for causing any frustration and angst.
I've discussed the issues with Alan and I've settled a 'twisted' children's books idea.
I've posted some details up and will have more work up shortly.
^_^
