Over the past couple of weeks I've been at war with my own indecisiveness, going through the daily process of switching my ideas, themes and sources. However from the beginning, 'Dark Moon' by acclaimed heroic fantasy author David Gemmell has been among my favourite choices for transcription and I finally settled on the idea. David Andrew Gemmell is one of the late, great bestselling British authors. He went on to write over 30 novels. I've read a few of Gemmell's fantasy novels which often exhibit lightning fast battle scenes and descriptive violence, taking place in epic worlds which; I feel, are on par with that of legendary fantasy writers Tolkien and C.S Lewis. His novels, or the ones I've read at least, also deeply explore themes of honour, loyalty and redemption. These themes are all explored and communicated through unique, memorable characters who each have their own tales to be told; pieces of a puzzle which, while individual images in themselves ultimateley come together to form a complete picture.
I have chosen Dark Moon for various reasons. The characters in the book are memorable and each of their own stories are written in such a way that an entire book could be written for each of the main characters. The environments he describes are vivid and full of detail. There are also hidden themes which he addresses in the novel, such as the human condition and its existence not just within the world, but how we live alongside it. He also explores themes of fear, and the lengths we go to in order to face that fear, even if it draws up to the brink of insanity.

My overall objective, aside from fulfilling the requirements of the brief, is to create something epic. To transcribe Gemmell's writing into a vivid world, with believable and visually memorable characters and colossal environments that when brought together create a vast world that is true to the novel.
